In his short career, Apichatpong Weerasethakul has come to be recognised as one of the most original voices in Asian and world cinema. His four feature films and his short films have won him widespread international recognition and numerous festival prizes. »Blissfully Yours« (2002) won the prize of »Un Certain Regard«, and »Tropical Malady« (2004) the Jury Prize of the Cannes Film Festival Competition.
The Match Factory congratulates Apichatpong Weerasethakul to his success and is delighted that the Jury of the Festival de Cannes recognised his outstanding work as a filmmaker with the most prestigious award of all.

»Bal« (Honey) by Semih Kaplanoglu wins Golden Bear at Berlin
The Match Factory's international competition entry »Bal« (Honey) by Turkish director Semih Kaplanoglu wins the Golden Bear at Berlin.
The film, the third part in Kaplanoglu's Yusuf triology, tells the story of sensitive six-year-old Yusuf: the forest where he lives becomes a place of mystery and adventure, a strong bond with his beekeeper father, and difficulties as an outsider during his first year of school.
German Co-Producers Bettina Brokemper and Johannes Rexin (Heimatfilm) came on stage to join Semih Kaplanoglu who won his first Golden Bear.
The Prize of the Ecumenical Jury also went to »Bal«.
